RECOMMENDED NUTRIENTS INTAKE (RNI)

Recommended Nutrients Intake (RNI) is used as the basis for determining nutritional adequacy of the diets presented.

The Recommended Nutrients Intake (RNI) have be defined as the levels of intake of essential nutrients , based on present available scientific knowledge, considered to be adequate to meet the nutritional needs of healthy individuals of different ages and sex whose ‘reference’ activity is of moderate nature.

Recommended Nutrients Intake (RNI) should not be confused with requirements which are highly individualized nor should they be considered necessarily adequate to meet all therapeutic nutritional needs. As far as practicable, diets served in hospitals should be planned to conform to the RNI, and that adjustments will be made to the individual needs of patients.
